Ficlet | When Bella’s truck ‘died’ shortly before she did, for Jacob it was sickly poetic. More so that he should take back the truck that he’d rebuilt for her and again fix it, this time not for but in memory of the first girl he loved. Now that it was fixed and running again, he used it mostly for errands the Rabbit wasn’t up to, but did on occasion drive it just because. Edward spotted it right away, as soon as he arrived on the reservation. Worried news of Jacob’s imprinting would be learned by his family, he managed to convince them all to let him go alone to La Push — for re-negotiations of the treaty post-Bella and Renesmee — on the grounds of it being his affairs. But as he soon discovered, he need not have worried. The wolf he had thought so reckless and impulsive, it seemed was just as committed to keeping knowledge of the imprint secret as he was. Chanting trivial, weather and environment-based observations to himself, Jacob seemed determined in keeping the pack from the thoughts of his heart and its obsession. Exhausted just listening to the boy’s blocking efforts, Edward accepted a ride back in the truck following the negotiations, even though it would have been quicker to run — which was how he had come. Once over the treaty line and too far from his kind to be heard, Jacob let his mind rest, too exhausted for anything other than low, primal desire for the sweet-smelling boy in the seat next to him. “You can’t keep this up forever,” Edward said. “I can try,” came Jacob’s defeated, heart-torn reply. And suddenly Edward could see it all clearer, that benign boy in Bella’s truck, once again searching for the strength to let go of all he ever wanted: to love and be loved in return. How selflessly he sacrificed what he wanted for those he loved, and how selfish Edward felt for asking him to do it again. “Pull over,” Edward said. “You don’t have to get out, it’s not much further,” Jacob replied with a sigh, “I won’t say anything.” “Pull over,” he repeated. Outside the truck, the rain against the evergreen caused a sea-like hue, through which Edward watched as Jacob’s lips quivered against his desires; and for the first time Edward couldn’t tell whether the thoughts were his or Jacob’s, they were so almost the same. And with his skin so cold it was near translucent, he removed his clothes, pressing his body against Jacob and his warmth, his own lips quivering with a need and desire to relieve Jacob’s pain. Need and desire, on the side of a lonely highway, to kiss the boy who, against all logic, he was falling in love with completely.

Bella’s truckNotes | For the third piece to my jakeward jigsaw, we find ourselves at the beginning of Edward developing genuine feelings for Jacob as he comes to understand just how selflessly Jacob loves him, and just how special Jacob is. Bella’s truck plays an important role in demonstrating, first, Jacob’s loyalty and warmth, and second, his heartache (something I don’t feel was fully developed in the books, the Nessie imprint being a bit too convenient for my liking; sure, it saved him some heartache, but didn’t it also, in a sense, illegitimise Jake’s loss?). Aesthetically the widescreen (or ‘windscreen’) perspective is meant to accentuate the intimacy of the moment captured, as viewers we’re positioned somewhere between outside and in. The colours also reference Hardwicke’s use of gels in Twilight (something I was disappointed wasn’t continued thereafter, blue for Twilight and brown/orange for New moon would have been very special). This entry was cross-posted to jakeward, twilight_slash, rpattz_taycob, twi_cwc and twilightmanips, which is why it is not friends locked. If you’re visiting from one of these communities and you’d like to see more of my manips, comment on my friends only entry, but be warned, much of my work is sexually explicit.

*blushes* Thanks so much, I'm so glad you like it, and that you think it looks like it really happened in the movie (that's my ultimate goal). And yes, it would be very lovely if Edward and Jacob would steam up the windows of Bella's truck for real ... but until that happens, that's what manips are for.

I'll be making lots more so stand by *hugs* (oh, and cheers for snagging ;o).

Another nice sweet piece and I like Edwards willingness to strip off his shirt for Jacob since Jacob is rarely seen with his shirt on later in the films or books.

I love how this story is developing and the fact that you're remodelling your characters how you'd like them to be. I agree with you about Renesmee's convenient imprintee status. I felt bad for Jacob when he imprinted in the books because it was just expected of him to get over all the previous pain that had given his character all it's depth in the series.

I was wondering whether to have Jacob imprint on 'Nessie' in my fanfic but I think you've helped me make up my mind not to. I think I'll find him someone better down the line, maybe in a few hundred years time.

Keep up the great work and please keep the ficlets coming.

Thank you thank you thank you. It really means a lot to have someone engage with my work ... looking back over these entries reminds me of the hours and hours I have put into this journal, and comments like yours make it all worthwhile.

Yes, I do quite a bit of remodelling of the characters, so thank you for noticing, and hopefully it was gradual. And I am honoured that I have helped make up your mind, what more could I ask for from my work :).
