CHEWYSTORIES Freaky Friday
Freaky Friday by chewableproseTitle | Freaky Friday
Author | chewableprose
Fandom | Friday the 13th (2009)
Pairing | Clay Miller/Nolan
Rating |
Ficlet | Clay Miller has been on his bike, on the road, in search of his sister for more than six weeks now; a search that has led him back to where it all started, to where she was last seen: Crystal Lake. Six weeks is a long and lonely time. With only his grief (of his recently deceased mother and presumed dead sister) as company — and with the police no longer looking with him — Clay feels close to giving up. That is until, while at a service station outside of town, he spots an old fuck buddy from college among a group of friends. Secret encounters between the two in a rundown cabin in a deserted camp on the outskirts of town commence. Just as it had in college, the sex becomes for Clay an outlet for his frustration. The nightly fucks in the empty woods reenergise him for a searching out of those responsible. A searching out that, one night, when he hears the rustling of bushes outside the glassless window of the cabin, brings him, mid-fuck, closer to the truth than he ever had been before, or perhaps than he could have ever been prepared to face.

Jared Padalecki as Clay MillerNotes | I should begin by saying that I really enjoyed this remake (which was basically a mashup of the first four films). I liked that each scene had been artificially coloured, it made it otherworldly, a fantasy, just as it should be — those who criticise such things in horror films (especially slasher films in the 1980s tradition) would do well to remember that the horror genre is all about fantasy (usually a fantasy of id-run-amuck hillbillies, inbreeding mayhem off the beaten track — as is the case with this franchise). Jared is also major squee for me, he’s just so big (all the boys say so) and is particularly buff here; with that chocolate tan, floppy hair, tighty-grey tee and bubble-butt-hugging denim *swoon*: sure, I’ll bite. And besides, given its plot (following on from my last manip) the wax to Clay shift was a logical one. Friday the 13th (even more so than House of wax) is the ultimate incestial love story that (again, see my last entry) doesn’t let anything stand in the way of sibling (implied-)sexual fulfilment. Even Jenna, who follows every rule in the unwritten book of How to successfully survive a horror film ends up sliced and diced (predictably, just as Clay and his sister, Whitney, are reunited). As if she was just kneading Clay warm for Whitney, whose incestial ties to the hero, chastity and the whole oedipal thing she had going on with Jason meant poor Jenna didn’t stand a chance. So, I suppose you could say that Freaky Friday is about problematising this sibling desire with a, hmph, distraction. At least that’s what it was to begin with.

Travis Van Winkle as Trent, Danielle Panabaker as Jenna and Jared Padalecki as Clay MillerOriginally I had planned to pair Clay with Trent, a major douche-bag who seals his fate by fucking around on girlfriend Jenna — as if you would, she’s totally awesome. But then I asked myself why I wanted to pair them up. Yes there is sexual tension there (courtesy of their conflicting personalities — that one of them is a prick — and competitive dick measuring encounters). But I suspect there was more to it than that. Although Trent doesn’t make any homophobic remarks, I had him pegged as a homophobe (probably because of his jock/bully persona that culturelore dictates makes him a perfect candidate for a self-loathing, closeted homosexual). Most troubling was my intentions (albe-them subconscious ones). I suspect that I wanted to have Clay fucking Trent because I thought it would be, for him, the worst thing imaginable (or rather, the best thing, given his closeted nature). This is, of course, nothing new (think of all the gay-themed films in which a gay character is sodomised by homophobic characters, Common ground and Dreamboy are two such films that come immediately to mind); there has been empirical research exploring this very idea, of homosexual panic and the repression of same-sex desire in homophobic subjects. However it was my rationale that troubled me. When a homosexual male (me) seeks to put a perceived homophobic character (Trent) into a sexually explicit homosexual submissive situation as a form of (subconscious) punishment, it raises questions about my own internalised homophobia. Why is it that I read Trent (a wanker) as a homophobe (repressing same-sex desires) and Clay (a non-wanker) as not? Perhaps because I take Clay’s good nature as an indicator of his sexual stability, that he doesn’t need to repress anything — this is without even mentioning Jason’s role in this manip as a homosexual scopophile (I mean, come on, nothing goes on in Camp Crystal Lake without Jason knowing about it ... let alone male bonking in his bed night after night). For those reading this, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Ryan Hansen as Nolan and Willa Ford as ChelseaI do also believe that the genre is in some way responsible for my thinking. By nature, horror films essentialise characters into neat binaries, hero/villain, slut/virgin. Homogeneous, predominately white (although this film has ‘token’ Asian and African-American characters, which is almost more painful) and middle-class characters that fit comfortably within a formula. In short, this is why I decided to go with Nolan, and why my summary works so hard to move the action away from the ‘party house’ of booze games, drugs and premarital sex (which were the aspects of the film I enjoyed least). Nolan is a sexless sex fiend, which is actually what I love about him. He’s dry humping throughout the film, but (unlike most of the other characters), never actually gets laid. So, before his death, I thought I’d grant him a bit of relief (see, not punishment, relief, much more positive). I also like the idea of what would follow this scene — Nolan shot in the head with an arrow through the window (sad but inevitable), Clay running naked through the camp, still hard from the adrenaline and residue clamp on his cock from Nolan’s tight arse ... it’s very House of morecock.

As per all my previous manips, there is both a widescreen and detail version of the work.

Yay, thanks Tom. Thinking back on the franchise, Jason has watched a LOT of sex from the bushes, a bit of a peeping perv me thinks. And besides, who knows what's going on behind that mask, blushed deformed and grotesque cheeks, no doubt ;op. Love your Jared icon (as I did the last Chad one too, blue and yellow suits the boys).

It really is worth a look, Jared is so pretty in it and he gets lots of air time as the hunky hero. Thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it.

Guh, Jared is so pretty. Once again, great work. I love how it is simultaeniously so hot, but so creepy with the darkened setting and of course Jason watching in the background. And again, I love reading what you have to say about slasher films and sexuality. Interesting stuff.,

I know, right? He's such a dreamboat, so tall and tanned and toned, with that fabulous hair. I'm glad you picked up on the dual scary/sexy setting, it was exactly what I was going for. And again, it's nice to know that the notes are being read, much appreciated.

I like the manip, and I appreciate your reasoning. *g*

You invited comment on your thinky-thoughts but the only thing I really have to contribute is that I agree with your reading of Clay as not homophobic because he seems like a well-adjusted personality. Gay or straight, well-adjusted, secure people don't react negatively to the idea of homosexuality, or to gay people.

Your comment is much appreciated. And yes, Clay is a pretty awesome guy.

Mmm, I didn't realize Jason was such a peeping Jason. Well on second thought, that's about the time he starts slicing and dicing.

Very nicely done.

Thanks Kosh, and yes, he's a peeping Jason.
